Coaching for Business and Life Success
Coaching is a process that combines aspects of mentoring, supervision and counselling in a variety of ways which depend largely on the training, experience and capabilities of the coach in relation to the coachee. In the context of careers it is based on the recognition that the last 30 years have seen fundamental shifts in the nature of the business environment, economic stability, change trajectory, information systems and the employer-employee relationship.
The Jungle
The employee now competes in a highly dynamic environment subject to significant multinational influences and is deluged in information some of which is essential but which is largely superfluous. They are promised little in terms job security, and advancement occurs in a competitive multi-layered context in which gender politics is often a significant factor. Additionally the workforce is currently occupied by 3 distinct generations for the first time in known history and the chain of advancement may include individuals from each of those generations. For those that successfully negotiate this pathway there is the potential for enhanced earning, increased autonomy, greater flexibility (including work-life balance). However for many individuals at some stage they become stuck increasing their risk of stagnation, depression and burnout.
