Individual and Couples Counselling
Counselling involves working with clients in their individual situations to facilitate the positive changes utilizing the resources and abilities of the client and their community. It is a client-directed and collaborative process. In essence counselling could be summarized as the art of 3 stances.
3 Stances of Counselling
Standing Beside: Providing positive affirmation and support
Standing Apart: Presenting alternative perspectives for consideration
Holding a Mirror: Reflecting the counsellor’s experience of the client
These stances enable the client or couple to experience themselves in different ways - to imagine, conceptualise and plan new ways of being. For couples there is the opportunity to move out of ingrained and damaging patterns of behaviour and re-capture the excitement and romance that often characterized the early relationship.
